Please practice daily to a metronome, as a drummer this is such an important skill later in your musical career. It is absolutely necessary when tracking in the studio since you will most likely be doing drums BEFORE guitar/bass/vocals and whether you are recording in a proper studio or some dudes computer recording DAW rig in his basement he will make you play to a metronome.

I think Automatica was just trying to stress the importance of keeping time in general as a drummer. What separates the novices from the pros aren't necessarily chops and licks but the simple ability to keep time. This is a crucial foundational skill to drum playing that will save you loads of time in the future.
