For starting off, Nirvana has some of the easiest bass lines ever! And they are pretty sexy sounding I must add. :P

I'll start doing some of their stuff. Altho I am way past that practice level I think xD

I don't use effects pedals. I had a Zoom GFX-4 but Couldn't work it for shit (either coz it sucks, or coz i'm retardedinthehead) so I simply use my guitar + distortion pedal + amps chorus.

I may invest in another one, but I gotta know how the fuck they work first

Fucking magnets dude.

Hey dude! Welcome to the bass family :)

As for songs - what type of music do you play/listen to? I could recommend a shit ton of basslines to you but it all really depends on what you find fun and are wanting to learn.

and pedals... if you want to learn a lot about proper bass tone, experiment with overdriven bass, etc. I would highly recommend investing in a sansamp VT character pedal (built by tech21 in nyc) guitar centre and long and mcquade both stock them. They're meant to replicate the tube tone of ampeg svt tube heads, and it will make your bass sound absolutely fucking golden. Sometimes I don't even have an on-stage amp, I just run this pedal directly into a board and get some sound through my moniter - amazing, amazing tone. And you can distort as well with this pedal.

It's only as easy as you let it be in my opinion.

Nice bass topic! I'm currently rocking a Boss ME255 pedal. It's pretty gnarly, along with my Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0T 350watt 10" amp-head combo, the sound is amazing and the portability was the selling point for me, been gig'd a few times and the sound is just lovely.

Im waiting till I move back to Alberta to pick up a Fender Kingman Acoustic bass for jammin, and a real nice Fender Precision once Im working again. I love bass it's amazing!
