Go to Ultimate-Guitar.com find the songs you want to play and do it. Reading and playing tablatures helped me immensely

ya i started that way but, im going to finish working my way through this learn and master book anyway, it covers some stuff that you coudnt really learn from tabs. it covers all the slides and hammer ons and stuff, fingerpicking the correct way... pentatonics, blues scales, major/minor chords, 7th chords etc. im going to try to learn a bit more theory as well, including chord construction, because i have only a partial understanding of how the chords are constructed, and i also want to get the scales nailed down all over the fretboard as well, and learn all the common chord progressions for the major scales, which strangely enough, dont seem to be the same for the minor scales..

c maj = a minor, but the chord progressions are so different, its crazy, its like not even the same chords in a different order, but all different chords

i figure by the time im done with all that stuff, it should make learning many songs alot easier, but we'll see i guess. I still have trouble with some of the easier smashing pumpkins songs to sound right

ya i been playing for like a little over a year really off and on though and i taught myself everything. what i did was dl tabs of songs i really liked and try to play them and watch videos of kids covering them on youtube. lol ofc you cant play them for shit at first but it honestly progressed me super fast trying to play non beginner type songs with every style of picking in them. like tremelo / chords / palm muting / alternate picking just practice. like i said i only been playing a little over a year and i still have lot to learn but i know kids that played for like 4-5 that im better then now

thnx yall, i appreciate the comments, im going to find a new song to try and get through then as well as practicing whats in the book. I just feel like the book course has a little bit of everything, and honestly im kinda digging the fingerpicking thing cuz im playing an acoustic. plus the scales and stuff are nice, and ill feel like ive accomplished something if i finish the book because its an array of styles, and has a good bit of theory. IM going to try and find a new song to learn as well though

ya i think they did it to make the song easier, because of the tuning its like nonstop bar chords

Sway - Rolling stones

shud have a look at the tabs if u need bar chord endurance practice lol... i could only practice it for like 10 minutes and now my left hand is shot

Part of your "practice" should include learning a song to keep you interested.
