all chords are essential to improvising just because power chords sound better in some situations doesnt mean you dont have much skill..

Anyone that has ever played a power chord is a horrible musician and should consider a new hobby/career.

Find one artist/band that has not used a power chord.

Just let me apply your logic to another subject.

Any amateur basketball player can use a bounce pass, therefore any basketball player that uses bounce passes is a horrible player and should consider a new hobby/career.

You have now officially proven you havn't got a clue about playing and instrument - and I will now view everything you post as spam/troll.

No, that's wrong because bounce passes are sometimes necessary and often difficult. Plus, the sound of a crisp bounce pass hitting the recently waxed hardwood floor and gently landing into the soft hands of an amateur basketball player sounds at least ten times better than any power chord ever could.

He seems to be a Phish fan although his username may just be a coincidence...so I planned to go browse through some Phish tabs looking for power chords. No joke, the first 3 notes of the first tab listed on UG:

E]--------8--
B]-----8-----
G]--5-------
D]-----------
A]-----------
E]-----------

Perfect 5th followed by a perfect 4th...wouldn't you know it, an arpeggiated power chord.
