Don't get a half stack unless you're playing shows regularly in relatively large venues. Even a 40w 112 is more than enough for small gigs. Single Rec would be a good option.

call me crazy, but marshall sucks. fender, mesa boogie and crate are my favorite tube amps. my cousin has a professional (botique) studio loaded with sweet vintage gear i get to demo every christmas. the studio is closed now but the gear is sitting there waiting for me.

if you have cash, check out Diezel. BEST metal amp I have EVER tried (been playing for 13 years). I had a chance to play a Bogner Alchemist for about 9 mins but was impressed with its range of tones and quality of different channels.

the old marshall JDM 800's are fucking awesome. The rest are overrated ofc. Mesa Boogie FTW. That said, For the cheaper prices, Peavey Classic 30 is tough to beat... 5150 is also badass!
