in that price range, i would check out craigslist and eebay for used: bc rich, ESP (LTD), Schecter, and ibanez. since i'm guessing you'll be using low tunings, you'd be best with going with a guitar with a longer scale and dropping a seymour duncan invader or EMG 81 in it, regardless of the brand, based on your budget.

i'd go ibanez, eebay is cheap
