Bad advice - do not heed it.
Make your own decision on whether you are getting ripped off or not. If it's a genuine Fender, buy it.
I have bought both the fenders that have come through my pawn shop where I work, and they have been the best investments i've made guitar wise so far!

I made the upgrade and there is a serious difference between both guitars.
