Looking for some easier songs to cover for bass.

4/4 time, lower-mid tempo, 1 key, basic stuff.....no slapping/popping, not too many hammer ons (still learning to make those sound good, whenever I do them the hammered on notes have like no volume)

just to help me get better at timing, moving around the board, etc.

The hammered on notes have to be hard and precise. Make sure you are hitting as close to the fret as possible without being on top of the fret. Obviously this isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. It will take months of constant practice to have a consistent and loud hammer-on, but this is where you start. Just make sure that when you are putting so much force into the hammer-on, you are bringing the string directly down, and not bending it to the side, causing the tone to sharpen.

I go by notes, but I still haven't figured out the wording for different octaves.

i duno if this is helping or not but you could use almost any song where you here a continuous quarter note bass line throughout the song. It is pretty common in classic rock.

When you get solid on that and want something a bit more challenging listen to the "galloping base lines" from Iron Maiden

I know the galloping bass lines...but they kill my hands...lol

For whatever reason, my fretting hand always gets real cramped in the palm.....I'm not sure why. I mean, I hold the guitar the way everyone says I'm supposed to with my thumb lightly pressed against the bottom of the neck. That way you can get maximum spread on your fingers and stuff.

My picking fingers (I don't play w/ a pick) seem to get tired as well after like half a song or so of a continuous beat....

will practice help this?
