all i'm saying if your a musician spend on equipment before a comp.

unless your making sum techno mixes with one word title names.

maybe developing on what kind of music you are doing might help you get a possitive answer on your question. but a desktop over a laptop is my answer.

the fuck are you babbling about? Do you know what a mac is?

And all I'm saying is don't ever post here again because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Back on topic, are you planning on maybe expanding a studio and such, or will you be moving a lot for recordings?

I suggest you spend your money on mics, cables and a good interphase rather than a new computer. From what you said, a custom computer, quad core, i assume it has a decent ammount of ram. You can buy an external drive for storage. As for recording, an SM57 is pretty standard for recording guitars, bass is usually done DI, and vocals can easily be done with an SM58. For an interphase you can get a Digidesign Mbox for the protools that it comes with.

I'd say if you really only need it for music and need it to be transportable, get a macbook. No experience with them, but I do know that they're good at processing audio/video.
A custombuilt computer with a quadcore is more than enough for home recording, though.
For software I'd recomend you either Cakewalk Sonar or Protools.
Get a pair of Shure SM57s for micing cabs/drums and a SM58 for vocals.
Interface is really up to what you can afford from there. The Fasttrack Pro is pretty good, also 2x mic inputs and phantom power for when you decide to upgrade to condensor mics.

Macs are not any better than a PC of the same specs. Yet cost almost double. A mac has a small advantage in that it is still gaining popularity and becoming a larger part of the market. The whole, viruses/spam/adware argument will soon become irrelevant because as macs become more popular the malicious software for macs will become equal to what exists on PCs.

A mac will limit you in your ability to upgrade, but you do get that nifty apple on the top.

The quality of your sound will be based on your interphase, microphone, cables, and your guitar equipment. The power of your computer will determine how much it can handle, like how many tracks you can record at once, how many plugins you can use, etc.
