I want to play metal anyways.
Sound of the guitar is no problem..

Take the advise of people who actually play. Get an acoustic first.

You won't take that Dean guitar home and shred, learn the standard
basis for every song... Chords, then work in melodies and solos. It
is best to start at the beginning instead of jumping into the middle.

The first guitar I bought was electric. Worked out for me just fine.

It worked out for me too. But as long as he knows it's going to take years and years to play what he thinks he may be able to play in a few months ;).

It's great to start out on acoustic, because you CANNOT just pick up an electric and start playing metal, or you wont get very far. You need to learn the basics of music and guitar.

Yes.

You can learn the basics on an electric, though.
I don't see the difference between what you start out on, to be honest.

Read Forskanen's post for what I meant with starting acoustic.

If he wants an electric he should get an electric. No reason why he needs to start on acoustic. Im just saying dont get THAT electric. There are better ones.

This.

The only real benefit of starting on an acoustic is that it will callous your fingers faster, and make the transition to electric easier.

But if you start on an electric, what is the point of an acoustic?

And I agree about the Dean. It really isn't a good idea, even though it's your first guitar

My personal thoughts:

As an acoustic-lover, I'm a little biased. I'd recommend for you to get an acoustic first just because it's more difficult; there's more tension, training fingers faster and stronger, and everything that you produce is directly reliant on you. There's no amp or fx to cover some things up, it's completely on you with what you make of it.

Electrics almost feel like different instruments to me, honestly. The necks tend to be thinner, it feels so weird because the strings are so easy to push. The only real problem I had in transition is that I would push strings too hard and unintentionally bend notes.

If you're decided to stick with it, by all means, get a nice acoustic or electric. No reason to have to put yourself out an extra $150~ just so you can test the waters. If you're decided, get on that shit. Quality is worth it when it's something you want to do.

i'd suggest to buy an ibanez if you really want to start playing with an electric one. grgr121ex for example. yamaha has some cheap but good ones also. pacifica for example. don't take that dean.
