While the EMG's are great pickups, over the last few years I have found that passive pickups get a better overrall tone. You get more of the voice of the guitar, more "character". EMG's are good if you want a real processed sound, but if your looking for a more versatile pickup that also handles high gain I prefer pickups such as seymour duncan distortio, invader, or gibson dirty fingers humbucker. With all those pickups you get the great clean along with the great distortion. Just because you see all these metal guitars with EMG's doesn't mean you HAVE to jump on the bandwagon, all in all a great passive humbucker is better imo.

WOW THANKS NOW IM MORE CONFUSED WHICH TO BUY.

WE GOT SEVERAL DUNCAN FANS, SEVERAL EMG FANS.

AND SEVERAL PEOPLE FOR AND AGAINST BLACKOUTS AND JB/59.

id like to play mostly hard rock once i get better on guitar but id still like to be able to play some other stuff clean once in a while.

i dunno i wanted to upgrade my schecter and i checked which model pickups the higher end schecter models havve and most of the them have the jb/59 combo.

and i saw a really high end model with the blackouts.

ALL IN ALL IM GUESSING WHAT WAS SAID HERE WAS THAT BLACKOUTS WOULD BE GREAT FOR METAL STRICTLY WHILE THE JB/59 COMBO ARE VERY VERSATILE AND COVER ALL ANGLES.

and another thing would the jb/59 combo be able to fit into my schecter? cuz the pickups i have in now are the emg h4 which are more boxed looking

It mainly comes down to personal preference and the tone you are looking for, you'll have to either try out guitars with the pickups in them or work from audio samples of the pickups.

I recommend checking out the EMG-X pickups, they are different enough from the standard 81/85 that they address the problems that many players have with the regular EMGs, and they have a great tone.

If you don't know much about pickups, check out DiMarzio's offerings too, the X2N and Super Distortion are quite popular. If you haven't familiarized yourself with pickups, there are a lot of options beyond a few big names, and quite a few good ones, you'll just need to figure out what you want and figure out what does that best, there is no single "best pickup".

but everyone agrees that the duncan blackouts or the jb/59 will definitely sound way better than the passive emg h4?????

yes the emg passives suck.

The 59 is very vintage sounding. So if you want heavy then id steer clear. The jb/jazz combo would probably suit you better. The blackouts are very good as well. I currently have emgs in my guitars (not by choice) but i do like the tone. If you want to look at high end pups Bare Knuckle pick ups are worth a shot. I would go to a store with your amp and test some of these common combos out to see which one fits you best.

once again im just going with what ive seen in the highest priced schecters.

they love the jb/59 combo and the blackouts.

but most likely im gonna go with the blackout set.i dont think i can go wrong with that.
