That arguement is pretty invalid.
One can easily say that those that have "soul" are just untalented musicians that hold notes and call it feeling and creativity when its lack of skill.
I would say in terms of accomplishment the shred/neo-classical musicians are better because they have taken playing to a higher level than the "soul players".
You wouldnt say Paganini's caprices are soulless in comparison to twinkle twinkle little star.
Besides the fact there is plenty of soul in metal/shred/fast solos. Gilbert, Vai, Gus G., Jari, Michael Romeo, Shawn Lane and the list goes on
Oh i'm not doubting the skill of them, I'm just not personally a fan. In terms of acomplishment, definately not. People that play soulfull music have been and will be remembered for ever, the random shred people will not, because seriously, think about it. Who CAN'T play fast. Everyone can play fast, but not everyone can play with soul.
