Yeah personally I like my Schecter C-1 and I love the sound I get with it but it's not really versicle. BUT if
you are just looking for a straight up shred and thread guitar go with a Hellraiser.

Jackson COW 7 strings are surprisingly good. Schecter Hellraisers, as well as the Loomis model, are great. I haven't tried an ESP 7 string, but they make great guitars all around.

Ibanez 7 strings never impressed me, and Dean's 7 string plays like a skateboard with strings.

The 7 string EB/MM John Petrucci model is great if you want to spend a few thousand dollars to play prog. Amazing guitar, but I wouldn't use it to play death metal.

I'm torn between Schecter and Ibanez. I'm getting mixed reviews from my friends. =/

Well, the 'brutal' factor is almost solely the pickups, so it all depends. The schecter will come with the same EMGs you find in most metal guitars. I dont know too much about ibanez pickups, as far as I know they make their own and I dont know very much about their different models. I dont like ibanez personally. A guitarist in my old band bought a $900 6-string Ibanez and it came with EMG HZ's (Laughably cheap bad sounding pickups). Just make sure if you do go Ibanez you do NOT have the knock-off EMGs and make sure it has solid pickups lol :D
