definately, if you can afford it, go for it. The spyder amps aren't "garbage" but they aren't the greatest amps either. I haven't had any trouble with mine and can get a lot of different tones out of it, though i will be upgrading in the near future. Only thing i dont like about it is the footswitch. It feels like it was cheaply made. Ultimately its your decision so head out to sam ash or guitar center and try them both out and see which one you like more.

The case against the Spyder is that the vyper and the roland cube are the same price + better. Also if you arent doing metal there are low wattage tube amps in the price range as well that are better.

i will be ranging from classic/blues/jazz/metal/rock/hard rock etc etc...

the amp is gonna be used for practicing... whether it be sweeps or rhythm... the amp has to do it all... right now im thinking about the vypyr...

They sold no Peavey's at Long and McQuade and I asked why and the one guy said because they are not the best , but not the worst.
The guy said the Peavey's tone was not as good... he's not talking about the Vypyr since he never heard of it.. but he told me to go with the Spider cuz that's what he uses... and I think it sounds just fine... cuz Ican't turn ont he Spider and say, " Well the sound sucks ass." I have nothing to compare it to...
