as stated piano is a great start

but if you want to be COOL, branch out towards bass guitar...

I love bass so damn much....If I wasn't already good at drums and didn't suck at it, I'd totally play bass...

Yeah I agree, piano is a solid basis for all musical instrument's. Since it's a (correct me if I'm wrong it's been a while) C instrument all theory is relevant to say.. a guitar or bass, or wind instrument's such as the clarinet.

the skin flute....

on a serious note, no instrument is easier to play than another. They all require a lot of time and effort to get good

i disagree.

xylophone is easier to master than a violin (for example)

im thinking about learning to play an instrument and i was wondering like what ones are easiest to learn to play.
ill try just about anything really

If thats the deciding factor of what instrument you want to play then you might as well not play anything. No instrument, not even singing is easy. After 9 years of singing, there are still so many things I can improve on --

playing an instrument is exactly like playing a sport, the only way for you to get better is a slow, enduring process.

You have to love the process of learning if you really want to play an instrument, not the end product always.

Edit: Hatemonkey, the xylophone can get a lot harder to play than you think it could. Once you start increase the size of your xylophone, and once you start using multiple sticks (some people even hold three in one hand) -- yea, it can get pretty damn tough.
