the boss ds-1 is terrible without mods. Not only that but we cant give you advice without knowing your current setup and budget.

Budget is low since I'm in college and federal work study only allows me to work 12 hrs a week and I'm working on my setup atm. Getting a Squier Fender Deluxe Strat. I will need to buy a new amp at some point but for a while I'll just use this shitty amp that's at my house. Also try to keep on topic I don't care about other people's opinion on music. Why would I care if other people do not like music I like?

a lot of people might be against this,

but since you are starting out (kinda)

i suggest getting a multi effects pedal...

they are very convenient and i used to use em a lot for the last couple of years

they are cheap, and they will give you as good a sound as any solid state amp

some might argue and say it sounds to processed but i love on the convenience and versatility of them

save your money. The sound will not be much better. What amp do you currently use.

you dont need a distortion pedal to sound like blink 182

just put your settings like this

Low: 0
Mid: 0
High: 0
Gain: 0
Volume: 0

Then proceed to the music store and buy some different music.

You should be greatly satisfied

Better than:

Lows: 2 o'clock
Mids: 0, Why is this knob here again?
High: 2 o'clock
Gain: Max w/ a boost in front of it to attempt to make up some of those mids that for some reason they have completely scooped.

Like most of the bands you probably listen too and I'm pretty sure you have absolutely no clue what you or I'm talking about.

To the original poster:

The SD-1 is a fine pedal depending on how you use it. Plenty of respected guitarists still use it because you can stomp the fuck out of it, get the sounds you want and replace it for $30 bucks the next time guitar center has a sale, which is every day.

I use a Maxon OD808 and had a Ibanez OD808 Reissue before that.

I've been a guitar tech for 2 touring bands for 3 straight tours and have maintained plenty of rigs, so you can take my words any way you'd like. biggrin.gif

95% of the artists i know that have at least a half decent tone use a keeley modded ds1, not an original. Also, you say you were a guitar tech for a touring band, yet you tell him to scoop the shit out of his mids. You may as well tell him to turn the volume to 0 since he will be lost in any type of mix situation, and they dont have nearly that much gain.

LOL.

I didn't tell him to use that, If you can read its says that's what all the bands you metal kids listen to sound like.

Keeley mod'd pedals in my opinion are a complete joke and overpriced, I'd rather go through Bruce Egnater or FJA if I wanted work done on a pedal.

Oh and by the way, I hate Zakk Wylde but the Wylde OD is nothing but a SD1 w/ different caps in a nicer box for $50 more and hes a pretty poplular guitarist known for boosting JCM's.

If you want me to go into metal/rock guitarist that have great tone both live and in the studio I can, and none of them use Keeley modded anything besides ts808 reissues that were sent in by them requesting exactly what they wanted.

Most used Maxon OD808's, OD9's and FJA Modded TS808's.

lol i thought you were telling him to use those settings. Where did the zw come from? I hate him too, and i wouldnt buy anything with his name on it, he is a signature whore and a mediocre guitarist.
