5 string = bass unless you're missing a string somewhere ^^
base = scrub instrument, learn-able within a day or two.

I'd like to see you play slap bass after two days.

Or play an Atheist song.

Or even have the independent finger strength to even play through a whole song without a pick.

Try some reggae if it's base. They tend to have pretty easy base lines while still helping you learn your fingering

once you learn the basics techniques of how to play (lessons for technique is googleable), best thing you can do is try to figure out how to play songs
by listening to them (transcribing). Start with easy rock/pop songs like the ones on the radio and go from there. also find out how to play the basic chords (google)

download guitar pro 5.2, download some tabs and learn the songs.

First you have to understand tabs though.

Learn fingerpicking, it's the important thing for sure.

Tips for learning guitar...

- Stay in your room all day playing,  friends/women are Satan.

Agreed, but occasionally allow for the women to come back in. Nothing worse then blue balls.

As a seasoned guitar player... I must disagree with that statement...

Bass guitar is no scrub instrument. There are songs out there with tough bass guitar parts, just as intense as a guitar solo and such, sometimes, even more difficult (depending on if you're fingerpicking the whole thing or not, among other things).

Guitar and bass are both "tough" instruments, but in different ways.
