I smell rage.

My gain is way lower than 8 and yet I think my tone could surpass yours easily.

If you don't have experience soldering and aren't confident in your ability to do it, then don't try doing it yourself.

I personally love the X2N, it has an amazing tone, very crisp and crunchy.
EMGs are good if you are downtuning a lot, using very heavy strings, or love pinch harmonics.

Clearly not designed with the clean tone in mind, but they are good for what they are made for, which is heavy distortion.

Michael Romeo of Symphony X uses an X2N/tonezone combo, good contrast in tones, I am going to work with that pair in one of my guitars after trying it.

If you had any knowledge or idea of what good tone was, you'd eat those words. And gain isn't the issue here, anything can be overdriven a bit and be even more distorted then EMGs without sacrificing your tone.

Hmm in fact, I do have knowledge.

I just like EMGs, and you don't that's all. Although, don't come and bitch on them like a new guy who doesn't know any shit about those pickups. Ever tried the 18v mod? Guess not. They do sound really good when you have it.

Alrighty cool. Im buying the 81 tomorrow and then taking it to a guitar shop but they say it will cost any where from 60- 120$ to install and set up the guitar. baby.gif

D standard for the win RAWR.

Also thanks for your info also Darkshade. bier.gif

The X2N sounds amazing in D standard tuning, a la Chuck Schuldiner + Michael Romeo. If you ever upgrade another guitar, be sure to consider it.

Originally was gonna get the x2n.

But the guitar shop had just sold the last one so kinda said fuck it and went with the emgs.

the 18v mod is nice and all, but it really does not do much unless you have a very clear articulate amp to begin with. It adds a tiny bit of headroom to the pickups. thats about it. I have it on my guitar.

Yes, that's the only problem. You do need a very good amp if you want good tone with EMGs. But still, when you do have one, they sound awesome tongue.gif
