so i would look for some technical, but not to hard songs that you like

what the the hell are you talking? in fact it is just everyone's opinion whether it's crap or it's not!

i also started playing guitar with some metallica songs because i just love them! you need motivation to teach yourself. so you should play some stuff you really like! otherwise you wont have any fun with your instrument...

btw: you have to decide what you want to play. i'm not the best musician but i have play in a metal band for some years and my knowledge about music is enough for this. i never had a professional training!

The best way to learn guitar is through a private tutor that knows what the hell he's doing, teaching you ONLY classical theory. by mastering classical theroy (1-4 months depending on dedication) you can teach yourself rock, blues, country, etc, by yourself, with minimal help. otherwise, learning crap/incorrect/incomplete/incoherent tabs, if you're serious about guitar, you'll be screwing yourself over. pm me if necessary.
