Listen..
This all depends on your playing style
in my opinion i like to really HEAR the guitar.. and everything i do on the strings.
If you are serious about expanding your guitar skills i would recommend the LTD ESP with the 81-60 pickups(Active of c) I like the fx-400
i've heard really good things about it and plan to purchase one myself here shortly.
The good thing about the emg pickups is that they bring more tone from your guitar whether it be from pick-harmonics,chomping,rhyth, or whatever!

Your best bet would be to go up to a music shop and play around and see what feels right to you. The unique aspect of guitar is that everyone is individual. That's why we're called artists happy.gif

Well since you're playing hard rock/metal, I'd consider Ibanez, ESP, Jackson and Schecter.

ESP (just about any model in your price range with emgs)
Jacksons
Epiphone sg (I prefer epi sgs over gibson o_O

Any Gibson > Any Epiphone.

I'd suggest getting a Fender Telecaster. They are ftw wink.gif.

I could probably recommend some very decent guitars in that price range.

Pm me with some specifics about what you are looking for in a guitar (types of sound, feel of the neck etc etc)

Get an ESP EC-1000

i have an epiphone special model (one of those cheap ass les paul looking guitars), got it for christmas a while ago in one of those guitar/amp packages. i've been playing on and off for about 5 years, spent about 2 1/2 years either not playing or just sitting around playing bar chords lol. i've beet getting a little more serious about playing in the past year or so and have actually improved after sitting around doing nothing with it. i want to buy a new guitar so i'm doing some research online, but no user reviews are helpful at ALL. every single one is just "OMGEZ this guitar looks cool and i don't know what the fuck i'm talking about but i'm gonna give it 5 stars!"
every single fucking guitar i see has a 5 star rating... can i get some help from anybody on here who really knows what they are talking about?

looking to spend up to $800, so i can't afford anything too fancy smile.gif. i play mostly hard rock/metal

Hey man, I bought a Schecter Hellraiser last chirstmas for 600$ and it comes with EMG active 81/85 pickups. It sounds and plays better than any of the guitars 2x the price. If you play metal youll love the styling too. Its ultra comfortable and the neck is flat and super skinny. I learned how to do sweep arpeggios quickly on this guitar and at my local guitar shop I didnt have to make a single payment for 1 year. Hope this helps, good luck making a decision.

well, i've narrowed it down to two guitars
i've been shopping around and a few days ago spent a few hours playing some guitars at guitar center. the two guitars i really liked were the DKMG Dinky and Schecter C-1 Hellraiser. kinda funny coming back to this thread a few weeks later and reading this again.
