Then I wouldnt throw too much money into a double bass, but its still cool for accents.

Shannon Lucas (The Black Dahlia Murder, ex-All That Remains) uses Axis Pedals, if you get what I mean, lol.

are those kinda like the reverse bass pedals?

well as you're just starting, a double bass pedal is pretty much the last thing you need. you can get a lower end pearl drumset for around 600$. There are cheaper solutions, but getting a $300 dollar peice of shit set, like i did for my first, can make it hard for you to want to progress after a while or resell it if you find it's something you didn't necessarily want/can't do. Better more variations of cymbals and a double bass pedal will come as you progress if you'd like.

idk what kind of music you intend to play, but a double bass pedal is always good. even if the music you play doesnt have a lot of double bass, it can still be used for great accents.

Unfortunately i dont know a whole lot about drum gear.

If you are into a lot of double bass id say saving up for Axis Pedals or DW 9000's would be ideal. According to some drummers I've played with, they're the best to have.

if your wanting a cheap double kick gibraltar is one of your best bets, but also learning on doubles isnt too good of an idea, youl get too dependant on them and your single foot pedal skills wont be as good...

if you use one until youve really got rolls and stuff like that down thats when you should get a double pedal, youll be even better with the doubles smile.gif

good luck!

ps. drums are the shit

Start out with something thicker. Vic Firth is my favorite brand. You can also usually get a bag of 20 unmarked sticks for ~$10 @ your local music shop. These are sticks that aren't 'perfect'. (Minor defect like unbalanced barely or something)

I have a Pearl Export ELX kit and a Roland electric kit. I prefer the acoustic kit however. I use Sabian cymbals but it's all preference. When you're starting out you won't need much. Get a crash, ride, and hi-hats. A good beginner package are Sabian XS. Comes with all 3 and it's <$100 I think.

Dampen your bass drum however you need. Put shit inside it, put stuff against it, damper pads, etc. Right now I have a pillow pressed to the front of it by a crate. But if I play a performance I would need some other way to dampen the sound.

Once you get whatever set you're getting you will probably want to replace the heads. It's a cheap upgrade that will make it sound wonders better. Better yet, have the music shop put them on for you and tune them. usually they will be glad to do it for free.

I agree start off cheap with just the basics.Seeing as you're starting drums later than some others I'd also recommend getting some lessons, you'll get competent alot quicker thumbsup.gif

ddrum diablo series is a very nice set to start out with. and for cymbals i would go with Sabian B8's, there cheap and sound very good. for heads if you want full sound go with Evan's EMAD heads. and i you REALLY want a double bass pedal buy a cheap one, it may be hard to play on it at first but it builds up leg strength and stamina
