I say drums, when the beat get into you can't go back, pratice different styles will help you getting originality, a pad with sticks will help you for sure but try to buy a rubber cover for your snare you get more feelings. The more *kind* of beat/percussions you try the more beats you'll learn, sometimes i find a nice drum beat when I play on my djembe O_o
But hey don't stop the guitar, a little bit of knowledge about the patterns/melody will help you understand the guitar/bass if you ever plan on jamming with peeps
very true. some of the best guitarists ive worked with started on drums.
