I'm practicing New born from Muse for a concert.

I play guitar and I'm having a hard time double strumming. There's resistance between the pick and strings. I've tried .46 pick, a little easier but stil...

Any tips?

What kind of grip are you using on the pick? Try laying the pick on the outside of the flat side of your index finger, then bring your thumb in to hold it in place.
Have you tried "choking up" on the pick so there is very little exposed? This may help the resistance or drag on the strings.

this is just anectodotal advice at best and im not much of a guitar player, but: for me, playing quickly it helps to have a thin pick like your takling about, also your wrist has to be really loose, it helps to make sure only ur thumb and first finger are "bent", the rest of ur fingers shud sort of be sticking out, if theyre curled it in creates "undue" tension in your wrist or so ive heard... also for me it helps alot to think about the note, that sounds dumb but it helps me when like think of this type thing, there is 2 sixteeth notes on the low E string, then back to eighth note chords... if i dont think about playing the chords after the sixteeth notes, there will be a very unpleasant pause in between as i try to "refigure" the rhythm in my head... it sounds dumb i know but when you start playing quickly if u dont think to the next note quickly enough there will always be funny pauses that mess u all up :/

hope this was of som ehelp :/ also helps to just use the tip of the pick and keep it angled i guess and try not to push thru the strings play the tops of them. thats the typical advice

maybe you could just use ur thumb :/ i can strum faster with just my thumb than with a pick :/ or set the pick so that u really only hit strings with it on the down strokes and on the ups the back of ur thumb

Work on a good position, your plectrum shouldn't be moving about when playing - so work on tightening that grip.

Also, get a 1mm plectrum - .45 is like paper xD

Thanks on advices.

I worked on tightening. I guess I'll have to reduce the volume while strumming that part.

i do think the last part is important at least for me though :/ i find more and more with everything there is no substitute for practice, im sure with time and effort gxy will be able to do that standing on his head with 1 hand tied behidn is back if he puts the necessary work into it :/ just a matter of lots of practice :/
