So I started playing bass a while back. I am learning a lot of Type O Negative by ear just so you know where my skill level is at...

Anyone wanna suggest songs that might help me improve?

Also, I am going to be looking for some pedals soon but I really have no idea where to start..

Do I get a distortion one first or a whammy effect or do they make pedals that can do both?!

Help please since they took bassmasta.net down :(

If you want some inspiration into different playing styles you should look into some Death bands that have some nice bass tunes.

Try the bands Death~ Album Individual Though Patterns & Obscura ~Album Cosmogenis for starters.

In my experience, alot of my bassist friends have just got a straight pedal board (zoom or smth) and it has everything. Flange works nicely on a bass

I love death, I don't know if I could play any of their stuff but I can try. Never listened to Obscura before so I will look into it, thanks bud!

Oh so it has multiple uses and effects in one foot pedal? That's pretty cool man.

Do I need to buy a bass specific one? Or do guitar pedals work the same as a bass pedal?

There are bass specific ones, but as a pure guitarist I can safely say that any will work on any plugged in instrument, bass or guitar.

Most of them have about 70+++ effects, and some of them have loop microchips so you can for instance, play the bassline to AC/DC - Back In Black, then while it's looping, you can then play a solo over the top - and thus you have a recorded song! ish xD

For starting off, Nirvana has some of the easiest bass lines ever! And they are pretty sexy sounding I must add. :P

I don't use effects pedals. I had a Zoom GFX-4 but Couldn't work it for shit (either coz it sucks, or coz i'm retardedinthehead) so I simply use my guitar + distortion pedal + amps chorus.

I may invest in another one, but I gotta know how the fuck they work first
