ok, so im new to guitar and i post in here regularly now. this is an opinion question cuz i guess there are numerous ways people hold/use a pick

also, i was curious about if any of you brace your picking hand, like put your wrist on the bridge or pinkie on the scratch protector thing.

i am asking this because i didnt know how to hold the pick when i started playing, and i youtubed some stuff, and it turns out i was probably dead wrong and thats the reason iw as hitting wrong notes.

so now i can pick much better/quicker, but its weird for me to play chords now cuz it feels all funny.. and i accidently mute strings after i play them, stuff like that. am i supposed to switch the way i hold the pick for strumming and picking? or one size fits all approach here?

there's no right way to do it just do what's comfortable.

personally, i do alternate between the way i play chords and individual string picking

for chords it's a free just slap at the strings

for individual notes it's more meticulously calculated occasionally with some anchoring

No, he is not trolling he is entirely right. Obviously, a pick is needed for pretty much all metal - but not using a pick IS a solution, and is not a troll.

it was just the impression i got that using a pick certain ways gave you a different sounds. what i was interested in tho was there was some good youtubes of people explaing how "bracing" helps you play more quickly/accurately, and i dont brace my picking hand at all.

thanks for all the help tho, i have like 3 more weeks of sessions to get through in the book, then i do the fingerstyle thing so ill be giving a try to the no pick thing, should take me 4 or 5 days to get through the lessons if i play 3+ hours a day
