So I just recently picked up guitar ~1 week ago... figure I really want to learn how to play so I'm slowly teaching myself... if anyone has any awesome guides/books I should get to help speed up this process that would be great... also tomorrow I'm looking to buy a new guitar online somewhere... I'm really new to guitars so I don't know exactly what to buy... I would like to know what is easier to learn quickly.... acoustic or electric? I am looking for anything $500 or under for now...

Any help would be greatly appreciated on finding the right electric/acoustic guitar for a beginner, also any books/guides would be great as well :D

Just post the names of the guitars or w.e or post links if you have them please ^^

You want an Acoustic guitar. Yamaha and Fender are top of their game, with Washburn and Takamine close behind, either brand will do and last you a while.

As far as "books" go, the only suggestion I have is to get the Guitar Grade 1-4 books. They will teach you everything you need to know about CHORDS, the most important thing for guitar, teach you how to play lead, what parts of a guitar do what, and good essentials.

I also recommend the magazine subscription Total Guitar - it has been my guitar bible for 5 years and I ahve about 170 issues ^_^ Gives you loadsa tabs, interviews, gear reviews and lessons.

Takamine is an excellent choice.
I worked at Guitar Center for years, it's an excellent starter guitar, with great quality sound, and a great feel.
And you can get a GS330S for like 275-300$.

Yes sir, going to subscribe to that magazine and i'm looking at these currently :

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha-CG171SF-Flamenco-Guitar-101862126-i1146655.gc

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Takamine-GS330S-Acoustic-Guitar-100461893-i1148963.gc

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha-CG162C-Cedar-Top-Classical-Guitar-712809-i1522802.gc

I don't know the differences between them though really... Guitar Center doesn't have many washburns/fenders at all.. so i'd have to find somewhere else to look for those

No matter, i'm sure guitar center has something for you. What kinda music you wanting to play - classical/spanish/acoustic mainly?

Infact - I just browsed their store, I wouldn't buy anything from it, doubt any of it feels very nice to hold.

As of right now just sort of light rock that uses acoustics... once I actually pick it up and am a lot better, I'm going to invest a bit more into an electric so I can start learning more rock.. as of right now I really want to learn Rise Against songs and so on
