so yeah, i bought some basic guitar lessons, and my teacher told me that the big mistake i was doing is that i was holding my guitar just like a baseball bat, that it had to have a space between the "arm"and my palm, sorry idk how its called, buit the thing is, i keep on watching professionnal guitarist playing and theres pretyt much always a part of the palm that is touching it, and its pretty much the same for me.. and i feel kinda comfortable like that, he is asking me to put the thumb behind the "Arm" and use it as a stable point and pick without touching the ''arm' with my palm'.

so yeah, what ya think?

lmk if u dont understand i mught just take pics of what i mean.

thanks

heres the pic

1st one is the way im normally playing
of course when i have to play on the 6th and 5th string, my palm lift from the ''arm'' and then i go back to my initial to position

the pic is fucking huge i know i cant reduce it.

and this is is the way hes telling me to play, and when i play like that, i have much less dexterity when i have to do fast notes, and its kinda uncomfortable to play like that

if you want more explanation, just ask me, i know i suck at explaining thing but i really wanna know, cuz i want to correct my mistakes now so i wont take em with me.

Play the way you feel the most comfortable and can still play clean notes :)

It's just like holding a pick, no matter how you do it, just be comfortable and able to play cleanly.

theres always exeptions
for example; when bending notes you have to have a good grip so sort of use that baseball grip.
but yeah, its always good to have that thumb positioned nicely so you can stretch further and run faster.

thw way ur teacher is telling u to hold it is how u should that way u can reach all strings without struggle cuz ur fingers are already in place.
but hey, im jjust some guy who plays guitar what do i know
do what's best for u.
i hold it liekt he way ur tyeacher tells u to though.
the position u hold is good for bends though

yes well, i mostly play david gilmour and pink floyd's song, wich is pretty much bending over bending.. and i dont think im going to play something else then that.. maybe some metallica, but pink floyd is my main interrest.

ya he is giving good advice tho few follow it (i dont). playing in proper posture also might help with carpal tunnel. what you are doing is called "lazy wrist" my orchestra teacher used to walk around slapping our wrists with a yardstick if in bad form.

I will say this much for me the way YOU pay and feel comfortable makes me lose dexterity and feel uncomfortable

the way ur teacher taught you which is how i play feels great and makes it easier for tuff barre chord progressions

but in the end its you and only that will figure it out and find your style good luck heres some advice dont keep your hand tense when playing or it will get sore

just relax and find what works for you
