composing music has always been hard.
i'd always stop once i get frustrated and can't seem to build from what i already have.

i have no idea how to apply my musical influences into composing my own music.

i took ap music theory but it's still hard to apply everything i know..

playing my favorite songs is easy.. but writing.. a whole new story.

help me out.
thanks

Dont compose on paper. Play with your instrument at hand to either build a basic rythm or melody. Once that has been developed it is much easier to heard the concept to continue writting, either to add different parts or different instruments.

usually i base songs off of a key or a melody i hear in my head. i can't just free-play to make stuff up.
its hard to just put ideas together so paper sort of works. i try to do it at the same time.. i dunno where to start really

Well then first write melody and work off there. There is no rule that you have to use influences. If you are being influenced by something it will show. If you are trying to force it then you are just trying to copy.

If you are in a band the best thing to do is just randomly jam, just get the drummer to play something and follow him.
That's atleast how I have done it in the past.

I have to disagree, ive had a lot more success writing riffs in my head, or on paper, and then playing them out and fixing them.

but hey, different things work for different people.

i write music all the time
all i do is play random chords and take off or add some fingers to the chord
and just pluck it
i can usually get somehtin pretty good that way

or just try and make up your own chords (im sure they alrdy exist) placing your fingers in random places
and sometimes youll hit something that your heart has rly wanted to put out

i believe the key to creating music is finding something your heart has wanted to express
once u hit that one chord or note
your heart will give you the rest

Not only your heart, but your ear too :)
And I just play around with my guitar.
I for myself don't bother looking for chords, keys, etc. I play what I feel is good, and when I can put a little dissonance in it, it's even better.
