looks like 2 normal rock drumkits to me o_O ofc all drummers like that have pretty big drumsets his is just 2 sets put together for recording purposes, notice the two seats he doesnt play the full kit

obviously he doesnt play the whole kit, that would be impossible, and yes it is technically 2 sets in 1, but it is still 1 kit

not impossible he can circle it arond him ive seen it done...almost pointless but i have seen it lol

And yeh thats like putting 0 amps next to each other and calling it 1 amp if hes playing them seperatly there not 1

I don't think you guys realize mike portnoy is easily the best drummer alive.

He plays the entire kit, and will hold up to 14ish circular rythyms at once, while singing, in 6/8 time signature.

I would have to say Neil Peart is the best.
Mike Portnoy has 2 kits. Based on the dvd, one is a "metal kit" and the other is an "Progressive/Experimental kit." He mentions that he switches back and forth song to song and sometimes within a song.
