Playing out of a mesa boogie dual rec and probably a small orange combo for practice

What kind of strat is it?

why get a dual recto if you're not going to play metal? What kind of music do you plan on playing with it?

If it's pretty much all-around try Dimarzios (That's what I have on my Strat, really good) or maybe Seymour Duncans (Heard alot of good things about those beauties). If it's more metal-oriented go for EMG 81/85 combo (that's what I currently have on my ESP, and let me tell you that you won't find any better pickups than these for metal).

Single coils or is there room for a humbucker?

There's really no need to be so hostile... Most people who know little about the guitar will say 'metal', though they mean any genre of music with distorted guitars. Obviously the dual recto is known for its extreme amounts of gain, and not so much for its cleans. Sure, the cleans are great, but it's not the best clean amp you could get for that kind of money.

You still didn't mention what kind of music you play, or what kind of routing your guitar has, but for very good cleans, I would recommend either a p90, or SD Jazz... if you're looking at single coil, I have no experience in that department.

I dunno. I can have the body altered to fit a hum though
