i still dont really think im competent enough to read notes since i just started yesterday but I have learned how to read individual note tabs and stuff like that.

most of what ive been trying to play are bands like killers, franz ferdinand, white stripes-just because most of them are simple and fun

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

oh and im also wondering how to make my guitar distorted like these bands do
i have a fender squire strat-if that helps

Well its kind of stupid to ask other peoples opinions on what to play lol

so i say you choose your favorite songs, and try learning them.

the easier they sound the easier they usually are.

try some alkaline trio songs or blink 182...pretty simple

Although i hate them, Green Day is good to start with.

If you can learn Basket Case, or Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit, it will teach you powerchords which are vital to play guitar to a good comfy standard.
