Anyone checked out Joanna's new album? Thoughts?
Some of the songs were a serious change of direction from her previous work (Leaving the City in particular has a much heavier rock influence than anything she's done before), and much of instrumentation is new (organs and some electronic sounds in particular). It's a stunningly beautiful album, but it doesn't match the utter masterpieces Ys and Have One on Me. Sapokanikan is the strongest song on the album and one of the best she's written.
Definitely worth checking out if you haven't, though if you've never listened to Joanna Newsom I'd check out Ys and Have One on Me first (the latter being IMO the greatest album of the last 20 years).
