If i had a 1,000$ to spend on a sound system, i'd buy used home theater amp, hook it up to a computer, then buy some 12 inch car subs, probably 2 would do, and just run some floor stand tower speakers.
Yes, you will fuck up the car subs because they're a different ohm, but it'll take a while... it wont happen over night, i had 3 x 12 inch subs hooked up to a home theater amp for 3 years and cranked it all the time and nothing ever happened to them.. i ended up selling the setup to a friend when i moved.
I got my current setup from helping someone move, 300 watt home theater amp and 2 x kenwood floor speakers with one 12 inch woofer in each box, the woofers are kinda fucked tho, just cause the prevous owners cat clawed one of them.. but they still pound. I have it hooked into my computer and just use it for all my sound needs... wouldn't mind some woofers, but then i'll have to buy a new amp with a sub port, and i don't wanna spend any money on a system that already sounds decent.
I had a really nice setup before, bought the home theater amp and speakers from a pawn shop for like 300$, was a crazy deal.. but i did buy a lot of shit from there so he hooked me up, try that tho, just go into a pawn shop and try to make a deal with the guy, they usually have a lot of that shit and they would sell you it for a good price if you come across as a good dude.
