I decided to make a topic to find new music for my collection--and to share some music I enjoy. My iTunes collection contains a somewhat modest 7,000+ songs, and I have a few hundred CDs in my collection as well, but I'm looking to expand it. I haven't been listening to music music much since my sons were born, and
my focus will be to find new singer-songwriters. That being said, I listen to just about every genre of music. I believe that great songs tell stories, whether they're about every day life, our emotions, or something else. I grew up on 60s, 70s, and 80s music (mainly 80s on the radio), and I feel lucky for that exposure. Around the 7th grade (let's just forget what year that was!) I got into rap and r&b, and I soon found reggae as well. I jumped into alternative when grunge broke out of Seattle. Once I got into university, I opened up my musical palate and explored just about everything out there for a while. So, I'm all ears.
[Please feel invited to post suggestions. I want to listen to music that people love to hear, and I hope those who provide suggestions might say something about why they chose what they posted.] This is an open music discussion, should anyone choose to drop in and eavesdrop on the conversation.
My pick for today is John Mayer's
Gravity. I think it suits him. It has a pop sound to it (let's face it, he's pretty mainstream), it has a great instrumental element, and it's lyrically soft even if it's somewhat deep. He gets into his own internal struggle here. I was going to post
Born and Rasied but i changed my mind at the last minute. I believe that John Mayer is a brilliant guitarist. He has a great sense of interpretation of lyrics, whether they're his own/his band's, or something borrowed. Normally people who sing love songs often bother me, but John has remained near the top of my list for a while.
