Sacred Mother Tongue are four hugely talented British musicians. They’ve recently signed to EMI, and “A Light Shines” is a four track appetite teaser, for next year’s eagerly anticipated album “Out Of The Darkness“. Ladies and gentlemen, this is “proper fucking metal“.

We’re huge fans of SMT here at TINAS Towers, and this EP, “A Light Shines” is a shining example (geddit?) of why these guys are one of the best metal outfits in the UK at the moment. Their previous album “The Ruin Of Man” was a stormer, their live shows are electric, and now with the backing of EMI, the lads have turned everything up another notch or two.

Individually each member of the band is a master of their art, but having incendiary guitarist Andy James in the ranks gives SMT an advantage over all others. It’s a bit like bringing Usain Bolt along to run in the Dad’s race at sports day. His six string work is phenomenal, delivering skull rattling riffs and thoughtful solos. James is one of the best metal guitarists in the UK at the moment, and we seriously reckon you would be hard pushed to find many better globally. Back him up with Josh Gurner and Lee Newell on bass and drums respectively and you have one of the most powerful and comprehensive rhythm units in rock. Newell is huge, and on this EP you can really feel his presence, as the production brings his power to the forefront. Gurner has always been solid, and always a highlight of the live set, (Josh-pit anyone) and this EP shows he’s no slouch on the record either, some funky bass lines creeping in there, complementing Newell’s assault and battery, “Bleeding Out” is a stormer, highlighting these two on top of their game.

Every team has to have a captain, and with Sacred Mother Tongue, vocalist Darrin South takes the armband. Vocally he has grown massively since the band’s inception 8 years ago. His performance on this EP is seriously chilling. Soaring and bittersweet he offers clarity and attitude. He has a darkness tingeing his vocal style, it serves to give a real appealing edge to the SMT sound.

Three belting studio tracks, “Evolve/Become”, “Bleeding Out” and “Seven” offer the main course. The EP is then finished with a live version “The City Is Crying”, which in itself is so bloody fluent, it just shows what a live force these guys are.

Jaw dropping, proper fucking metal for proper fucking metal fans. If you do not approve of what these guys are offering, then you simply fail at metal, and don’t deserve to have ears.

Personally, I have been into these guys since 08 when the toured the first album - which is fucking awesome btw, those that frequently get albums - absolutely hear it if you liked this.

If someone can embed please do.
