Most DAWs are pretty much the same in that the main horsepower comes from VSTs. Ableton is pretty much the standard. Anything you can think of, you can find a way to do.

Reason is a program that doesn't use VSTs but has it's own built-in instruments and a number of 'refills' that you can buy/DL for free. It's super intuitive and easy to use. You can also "rewire" it into programs like Fruity Loops or Ableton and use them in conjunction with one another
