never heard avenged sevenfold's first album and i dont plan on listening to it so i wouldnt know

If by unbeatable you mean mediocre then you're right. Sounds like every other metalcore band out there

If YOU think either one is better than the other, then you like that one better. Why care about listening to us, when what we think, isn't what you think? Just listen to anything you want. That is the best thing about music, you can choose anything.

two different types of sound. i would imagine they tickle people each in their own way..

I know Avenged Sevenfold is very popular maybe even more so then Mastodon..

Coming from one of the very few who actually enjoys Brutal Deth Metal.. I'd say your opinion is always going to be amongst the sensitive minority type...
