Listened to this one last night (Aventine by Agnes Obel):

I enjoyed it. I need to go back and give it another listen because I was kind of distracted by a friend on the first listen but it had some very nice guitar work in there which reminded me of some psychedelic folk I've heard from the 60's-70's. Described by RYM as "post-minimalism" this one is pretty bare, it has some hushed vocals, guitar work, piano, etc. and seems like it tries hard to emulate Nick Drake.

Gave it a 4.0 // 5.0 which may be an overreaction but I recommend it either way.

Also listened to these:

Circle by Amorphis -- Meh, an improvement over Skyforger and a bit of a return to their sound as I remember it but nothing too great. 3.0 // 5.0

Fever Hunting by Modern Life is War -- Vocals kind of killed it for me on this one. Too many random harsh noises and lame vocals and just didn't resound with me very well by the end. 2.5 // 5.0

Meir by Kvelertak -- This one I enjoyed. I don't remember much specficially besides the songs were quick, catchy, quite heavy and the vocals were good. Another one I simply remember as being good that I'll be returning to. 4.0 // 5.0

Thy Kingdom Scum by Church of Misery -- Overall -- not heavy enough. The last song is a damned fine track and if all the songs on the album were even half as good as it was it'd be on my top 5-10 list at the end of the year but as a stands it is simply too generic a release -- 3.5 // 5.0 (take that last one out and it is a 2.5 though).

Is Survived By by Touché Amoré -- Couldn't get down with the singer, hate to say it, and that really put a damper on my ability to enjoy this release. I get the feeling if you like the way a "hardcore" singer sings you'd be able to give this one a more earnest listen (maybe biased, who knows). 2.5 // 5.0

Fetch by Melt-Banana -- I was prepared for this to be awful, I've heard one album by Melt-Banana before and thought it was utter dogshit. I thought they used annoying noises and harsh sounds to be edgy by sheer aural (this the right word?) assault and it just turned me off to them entirely. This one encompases a lot of those same strategies but executed in a way that is less hostile, I guess you could say. The singer takes some getting used to but it can be quite catchy in places and quite frantic and detached in others. 4.0 // 5.0

Terribly Well by Sightings -- Must have been quite forgettable because I don't remember one thing about it and I rated it 3.0 // 5.0 so...3.0 // 5.0

The Dream Calls For Blood by Death Angel -- This band has a lot of nostalgic value for me, one of my favorite metal bands I listened to in high school. Overall it sounds alright and probably would have gone over much better if I wasn't so familiar with the band but it doesn't seem to offer anything their earlier releases do far better. In all reality it is probably a 2.5 but I gave it a 3.0 // 5.0 out of nostalgia and because it seems like a good introduction to metal.

Deserve by Weed -- Very quick songs, grabs your attention fast and leaves you wanting more, one of the better "punk" releases I've heard so far. 4.0 // 5.0

Well, that catches me up since my last update lol. I've probably got another 20-23 albums or so before I hit 100 on the year.

Finally got a hold of this one, Electric by Pet Shop Boys:

Catchy, but the vocals were kind of annoying and doesn't seem like it'll hold up on subsequent listens. I saw one user on RYM suggest it'd have been better as a purely instrumental album and I can't help but agree.

Soma by Windhand

Above average doom metal that was tranquil at times, went a bit long (album closer was a 30 minute song o.0) though.

Listened to a few more the past few days.

À l'âme enflammée, l'äme constellée... by Gris.

Really enjoyed this one. Heavy, good vocals, nice guitar work, the whole package, one of my favorite metal releases for this year. One of the ones I'll be coming back to. 4.0 // 5.0

Tales of Us by Goldfrapp

Don't remember much besides this being pleasant sounding. Reminds me of Laura Boling's release, slightly, only a little bit less captivating. Might come back to it to see if it hits harder the second time, for now a generous 3.5 // 5.0

Also heard:

Origins by Enshrine -- Very generic metal album. Categorized as "death doom metal" on RYM I was pretty excited for this when but God damn did it let me down. 2.5 // 5.0.
Last City Zero by Corrections House -- Industrial/Atmospheric Sludge metal, very interesting blend. Probably not as instrumental captivating as some of the other metal releases I've heard but certainly solid. 3.5 // 5.0
Partycrasher by A Wilhelm Scream -- Just couldn't get into it. Couldn't appreciate the lyrics, for whatever reason didn't like the singer. Eh... 2.0 // 5.0

Almost forgot, I finally got around to this one and thought it was awesome. I'll definitely be listening to it again and it'll probably crack my top ten.

Could not for the life of me find a download for this online so I went out and bought it (probably would've anyway to support the band and get the DVD, but that's neither here nor there). Uvler's The Norwegian National Opera is the first live album I've listened to this year and will probably be the last. The performance itself was pretty solid. The recording doesn't have the same magnitude as their other stuff I've heard and overall I was disappointed with it on my first go, but it might have been because I did the following, I) listened to it when it was cold as Hell out walking home and my hands hurt so much it was very unpleasant and II) hyped it a lot in my mind and was expecting too much, perhaps. Either way I definitely recommend it. It is a pretty accessible album and I get the impression it might be a good introduction to the band, even if it isn't as good as, say, Perdition City.

3.5 // 5.0

Also heard these:

Vesper by Entropia -- Very bottom-heavy album, the beginning almost turned me off to it entirely. Probably won't be coming back to this one again.
Das Torby Paysage d'Hiver -- Seen this album cover floating around so I had pretty high hopes for it but found it to be a pretty generic release which never really got my attention too much and was downright boring in a lot of parts.
Push the Sky Away by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds -- I prefer Murder Ballads. Slow tempo but lyrically I expected more, I guess? I don't know.

2 Albums I really liked that most people don't know about:

Stromae - Racine Carrée

Belgian guy who got famous with his 2011 single Alors On Danse. This album's pretty good, singles are Formidable and Papatouai.

Gregory Porter - Liquid Spirit

A cool mix between Soul & Jazz and a great voice that reminds me of Isaac Hayes.
