Damn, why discuss genres? That's like discussing which soda with same taste, but different bottle, is best... In metal, you could go on discussing genres, for the rest of your life. Just listen to the music, discuss which bands that are good or bad. Saying x genre is bad, is like saying that you don't want to see a documentary movie, regardless of what the program is about.
if some of these guys actually just listened to the bands instead of instinctively try to categorize them based on 1 or 2 album's success, I'm sure you'll find each band has a different sound based on era.
