I love metal for the musicmanship and punk for the lyrics and message

but nothing out of hardcore has ever been able to match either for me it's just so boring

i was raised on classic rock and country/southern rock. the classic rock turned my taste to oldschool thrash and eventually to all kinds of metal.

despite a lot of hardcore sounding the same, a lot of the olderstuff still holds a message, even some of the new. going to shows and actually participating will really change your view on the genre. it did for me.

I thought every song in hardcore sounded the same and was just angry people yelling for no reason until I went to a show with my friend. Fell in love.

the older hardcore I still consider punk new hardcore has spawned into its own genre

and I go to a lot of shows I just can't get into it the tempo is so slow and basic the pits aren't fun and none of the bands seem to be able to put together any decent message beyond I'm young, like tattoos and piercings, and will attempt to fight you if you make fun of me

If the Bane/Trapped Under Ice/Cruel Hand/Alpha & Omega tour rolls thru LA or whatever go to it. You'll have fun.

some of the slower songs are the more fun songs to dance to. I'm not the biggest fan of 10 bpm breakdowns, dont hate them, just they do get boring dancing to. thats most likely what you're listening to. you should find some 90s hardcore bands and listen to that generations version of a breakdown. they are a lot more upbeat and faster, but still slow enough to punch someone in the face to.

my area was highly known in the northeast during the 90s for those kind of bands. some even capture the old punk sound you would most likely appreciate. hit me up if you want the myspace etc.. because not many got really big and produced youtube videos, major cds, etc... only a few did before they died off.
