i actually like most of the branches hardcore has had. as my username suggests, early emo/screamo, crust, powerviolence, grindcore, thrash etc. but metalcore and pretty much everything posted in this topic goes completely against all the basic hardcore principles as they once were, its ridiculous and a little sad. HC should be about DIY, standing up for shit, raw emotion and power, not triggered drumkits, overcompressed plastic guitarsounds, $10,000 studioproductions, a bunch of pseudo-technical idiots who think its a requirement for each hardcore song to have 5 breakdowns and singers who have this little competition of who is the biggest tough guy and who can kick in your teeth better.
Since when did any particular genre of music have to hold loyalties to the foundation?
Isn't the entire point of being a different genre to be different than the predecessors?
Different music style, lyric composition, and social group?
Similarities persist indeed, but that does not mean that every song has to be about sad kids being beat up or the government breaking you down.
I understand the statement above is a terrible generalization of the genres you listed, but it was to illustrate a point.
In the end, the music is meant to be the way it is.
If you don't like it, then don't listen to it.
I enjoy many genres.
The ones I don't enjoy, I don't listen to.
