radiohead - pablo honey

i still don't think this is a bad album, yeah commence the flaming. i think the only reason why this one gets slammed so much is because it's fuckin RADIOHEAD!

Album name -- Ukulele Songs
Artist -- Eddie Vedder
Genre -- Ukulele-driven folk (lol)
Grade -- B - B+ (being very generous)

All the reviews and commentary I'd seen for this album were pretty lukewarm, so my expectations were very low and that might influence my generous grading on this one. It is pretty much what you might expect, Vedder singing folk songs with shit-tons (yes that's a unit of measurement) of ukulele. Very short songs, very mellow and I think it is similar to David Gilmour's On an Island in that they are very chill and seem to be excellent for listening when you are in a specific mood. No songs really jumped out at me, really, but I definitely recommend checking it out if you are a fan of Pearl Jam and/or Eddie Vedder (assuming you haven't already).

Also, the album cover is fucking incredible.

Album name -- Liege & Lief
Artist name -- Fairport Convention
Genre -- Folk, British Folk
Grade -- B+ -- A-

Reminds me a lot of Joan Baez and a little bit of Jefferson Airplane. It has a country feel to it (the good country, not contemporary horse shit) and I liked the lyrics quite a bit. It is from 1967 and is purported to be the first British folk band, although I don't think that's true. If you are into the old-school folk stuff (by which I mean 60's folk) you should look into this.

Album name -- My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Artist name -- Kanye West
Genre -- Hip-Hop
Grade -- B+ -- A

Pretty damned good album. I've never heard Kanye West before this album and I was surprised by how good it was (considering my expectations were pretty low). The one thing that took some getting used to were his vocals which remind me of the shitty dance pop I hear on the radio all the time. I was able to look past that pretty quickly, though, and I also really enjoyed the sounds and beats and all that good stuff. I also didn't expect 21st Century Schizoid Man to make an appearance, so that was awesome.

Album name -- Tomboy
Artist name -- Panda Bear
Genre -- Psychadelia?
Grade -- B+

I was very impressed with this release, actually. At first I never liked the Animal Collective sound but I went back and re-listened to MPP and enjoyed it so I thought I might as well check this album out, too. It isn't as good as Animal Collective but it is definitely worthwhile and one of the better recent releases.

Album: Spiral Shadow
Artist: Kylesa
Genre: Sludge Metal
Rating: B

Solid release from a great band. I'm glad to know they're still solid and putting out new things 10 years into their career. The album has really beautiful parts as well as very perverse parts, which ties in with the band's message I guess. The songs themselves have particularly great buildup and are well-paceds. Also has really unique beats due them having 2 drummers.

Wasn't expecting much, but this was suggested to me, simply incredible, their other three albums are nothing special, but this is easily one of my favourite albums.
