If this isn't great songwriting, I don't know what is.

darkgimp what do you concider quality music, that actually had such a impact on the music scene and the way that music is now?
and the rock charts were better then they are now, these days charts are a joke.
music that hits the charts is more or less ment to do so and such in my opinion is sort of a product, while the music made with passion often stays underground(at least doesnt hit the mainstream, exeptions there ofc) because a lot of people just don't understand it or don't even care enough to try looking for something that they actually do like.

Quality music to me is something that i can connect to on an emotional level, or something that compels me through sound and not lyric. Although, i do enjoy reading lyrics to certain bands who emphasize on it a little more (mudvayne). The way its sung/screamed will play a crucial role on my judgment of the lyric though.. It needs to be passionate and connect on a metaphysical level.

I just don't think if they came out now they would be as popular ya know? I've tried listening to them and giving it a real shot but i just cant seem to get into them, i mean a few songs are enjoyable but needs more driving double bass and less of an optimistic sound. lol

Well, of course. A big part of why music is popular is when it comes out. Lil Wayne would have been laughed off stage 40 years ago. The Beatles were popular because they were a big part of the counterculture hippie movement. If they were to release what they did back then today, people wouldn't understand it the same, and it may not generate as many positive reviews. The Beatles during the 1960's had a very special place in time to make their music, and they ended up making it so well that people today still say they are " The best band of all time, etc etc etc ". Whether or not you agree with it, you have to give respect to the beatles for what they did and how they did it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yesterday_%28song%29

wikipedia is credible etc etc

"According to the Guinness Book of Records, "Yesterday" has the most cover versions of any song ever written. The song remains popular today with more than 3,000 recorded cover versions, the first hitting the United Kingdom top 10 three months after the release of Help!. Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) asserts that it was performed over seven million times in the 20th century alone."

In Paul McCartneys biography (he may just be tooting his own horn), but he says Yesterday is the song that has hd the most plays on American radio airwaves

Classical music had the most impact on today's music, no doubt. Beatles may have had an impact, which is great, but that doesn't mean i would listen to them just because they influenced bands of today? Beatles influenced the "shitty" bands that are on the rock charts nowadays. idk, just cant listen to the beatles without feeling annoyed its like the songs don't build up to crazy climaxes just too bland for me..

You should stop m8. This thread is for appreciating their music, not finding every reason possible not to.
