anyways, what is emo?

It's short for "Emotional Punk". IMO, it's crap.

As a friend of mine put it: it's like all the Goth kids dressed up as Punkers for Halloween one year, and never switched back. :P

In keeping with the spirit of the thread, some Electronic Body Music (EBM) for you. :)

It's punk with a focus on angst, and most emo bands use this to appeal to a young audience and dress and sound like angsty hipsters.

Post-Hardcore, a sort of related genre is pretty ok though imo.

No; there's a whole (crappy) music scene that surrounds the look, as well.

I'm sure you could find some stuff on YouTube, if you're genuinely curious... but I'd recommend against it.

on topic:

This is a brilliant side project that includes members of Front 242, Cubanate, and Nitzer Ebb. Enjoy. :)

Nine Inch Nails. Very good band.

I especially loved the album Gosts I-IV. Even if it's only instrumental..

Year Zero as a concept was also great, but not topical anymore.

I'm shamed to admit it, but I didn't dig the earlier production of Reznor (Fragile, Downward Spiral)

/oh, and the song OP posted is from the worst album, With Teeth. Even the song 'Hand that feeds you' is kinda pop-like.

Dude! Go back further than that. Take the first album for a test-drive; see if you like it. :)

song: Head Like A Hole

First track off the first album, Pretty Hate Machine, released in '89. :)
