It's blatantly obvious the early sonic games were heavily influenced by psychedelics ( See the zones from Sonic & Knuckles, can you say mushroom tripping? ) but the music in the games was probably the most recognizable form :

Listen to those sound effects as sonic moves through the level. I wonder if the sound engineers were tripping while they made this stuff, sure sounds like it!

More trippy music from the genesis era. I loved this game as a kid, still holds a special place in my memories :
What's interesting is that this music is derived from the same classic analog synths, a lot of the same ones you hear in the goa/psytrance scene. Skip around the video and listen to the tunes, lots of interesting stuff!
