I suppose you're right. Taste is subjective so there's no way of knowing whether or not a band is good. Awards like Best New Artist don't exist because "taste is subjective"..........
I'm fully entitled to my opinion I'm not sure why you feel you have any power to take that away from me. It's clear you are in fact the one who does not know what you are talking about. You don't seem to realize that elements of music are not subjective. For example, if someone has to use auto-tune because they can't hit any notes. Obviously in this case an artist who could hit those notes would be considered a better artist. There are other factors at work as well, the depth of their lyrics, whether or not they are talented with any musical instrument, whether or not there is any uniqueness to their music or voice, etc... Modern music contains a lot of things to "aid" an artist to appear to be much better than they actually are. If you were to climb the stairs out of your mothers basement and go see some live bands you might realize this. Turn on your radio (not too loud, you don't want to wake your mother up) listen to a classic rock station, then listen to a pop station, you'll notice a major difference in music that was created prior to the modern information age and music that was created after. Not to say that ALL modern music is bad, there are of course quite a few exceptions. Most notable issues with modern music (in my opinion) is the lack of instruments, weak shallow lyrics, poor lyrical structure, and of course digitally altered voices.
i feel like bolded is what you need to do. it sounds like you need to stop comparing whats popular today to what was popular then. times have changed, i would say myself anyone would be a fool to say music hasnt progressed. the amount of different types of music now compared to the 60s is probably massive. this is why the radio sucks >>>>
http://frugaldad.com/2011/11/22/media-consolidation-infographic/there's tons of awesome musicians out there writing awesome music in a multitude of genres but sadly most of it isnt going reign supreme like it could in the past. you just have to look in the right places, you cant expect media and the radio to do it for you
