Slash would be nobody without Axl Rose. Before he met Axl and Izzy Stradlin, Slash was going through a very hard time. He also had a jam session with the group Poison, but they refused to let him join them.
What Slash is doing now is really different from what he did with the group, so I don't think you can compare the two things. You may prefer his new songs and dislike GnR's songs, but you have to admit that the 5 members of the band (Axl, Slash, Izzy, Steven and Duff) were all skilled and genius.
