like my sig? :p

the text in the image is distracting, but the actual picture has a good sense of direction and is p cute

do i like that people are heralding the death of hip hop? no

it's still very much alive

When I say hip-hop is dead i really mean like 90% of the new stuff

where do you get a figure like 90% ?

there's plenty of amazing artists just below the surface of the mainstream just waiting for the auto-tune fad to move to the side that are all producing new things

90% seems incredibly arbitrary or perhaps it's referring only to that small group of artists receiving heavy radio play, which isn't close to representative of the entire genre imo

and if it is referring to the latter, then it seems to me that it's pretty ignorant to disregard the large amount of individuals holding it down and continually pioneering the sounds in new directions just waiting to be discovered

Anything big in mainstream, like very little of the new big mainstream stuff is real rap imo.

'real' anything is a horrible qualifier for any argument, especially for music. how can you argue the 'realness' of something so subjective? and how/why does mainstream represent so much of the genre to you? big mainstream != all of hip hop, it's not close

i'm curious what 'real' rap you listen to

When I say real rap I mean something with a meaning behind the lyrics. It seems to all the new mainstream I listen to is all about jerkin, or fucking girls etc it

e/ posting here so i don't lose it

That's the release date for Volume I of 99 Songs of Revolution. Finally! What does the artwork look like? Funny you should ask, because it's right here! For track listing and to preorder either the vinyl or the CD version, head on over to The RISC Store. It's been a long weekend. Hell it's been a long year. That's it for today, but we have tons more news regarding upcoming tours, more song samples, etc etc. Be back in a day or two. Seriously. No really this time.

The first volume in the 99 Songs of Revolution series, this one by Streetlight Manifesto. Eleven covers, from eleven artists. This ships on or maybe a day or two before 3/16/10.

2. Hell - Squirrel Nut Zippers
3. Just - Radiohead
