what i liked about dubstep was that i had never heard sounds like that before...it progressed so quickly at the beginning. Labels like hyperdub releasing super fresh sounds. But now it's hit a wall. 90% of the stuff sounds the same. I want the new hotness not the old and busted. The Boiler Room mixes are much more interesting TO ME than the Get Darker mixes.
I prefer artists like Fantastic Mr. Fox, James Blake, Jam City, etc over Datsik and Skrillex. Even the deeper stuff, Mala, Jack Sparrow, etc doesn't hit me the same way that the more unique sounds that are coming out. The Dallas scene doesn't feature much outside of machine noises and robots fucking...it's unfortunate because there's a whole other side of the genre that isn't as aggressive or abrasive. Jus my take on the genre.
yeaaa things cant be fresh forever. its only so long before most styles have been experimented and used to a specific bpm / percussion pattern id say. and its not just dallas its all of america, the sound has blown up in the past 3ish years. not any different on the east coast, the hype tear out shows are easily the biggest, the majority wants to rage. nyc does have some good shows tho, mala just came thru on saturday
i wouldnt compare get darker to boiler room , theyre pretty different in what they do
get darker is there to push all the sounds of dubstep , and they try to leave out the commercial bull. theyve made that clear. get darker still deserves credit for what they do.
boiler room is way more open to every undeground sound , they arent there to push dubstep.. all kindsa different djs rollin through there, doing all different kind of sets
but im sure you know this lol
i just enjoy percussion and bass driven music , gotta keep diggin
