Yeah, that seems like a pretty good analysis. I need to find all that old AP and transfer it to my current computer for sure haha. It's definitely interesting to see where Infected Mushroom came from and where they are now. Two completely different versions of the same genre in my opinion. Evolution is a good thing though, I suppose, even if the newer IM tracks lack a bit of that punch.
Definitely! Astral Projection's " Trust in trance III " is probably my favorite album by them, worth revisiting many times for sure. It's probably their most important album as well, heavily influenced a ton of upcoming artists in the following years. Good stuff.
Infected Mushrooms new tracks just seem simpler than they used to be. They can't take to you nearly as far out as their songs from around 2000-2003 could. I've been on some journies whilst listening to old infected.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yevNTG9ltRkI love that really creepy feeling their older stuff had, it sounds seriously demented. All their tracks have that feeling of super deep tripping, where your mind is in another place, not state. The track I linked called " The Fly " is, in my opinion, probably their darkest track, right up there with Twisted, Where is S, and You don't exist.
/Edit : At 5:15 in " The Fly " that effect is so chilling and odd. I recently learned how to replicate it on my Midi and can't stop playing with it, just sounds so freaky! You hear it all over that song, but at 5:15 is where it really shines and shows how far out it can really be.
